New York State, 1997 - 2022
Notes
- Data Source: NYS Department of Health BHAE, data as of June 2023. HIV screening of newborn infants was initiated in February 1997. Data for 1997 from February to December.
- HIV transmission rate is per 100 exposed infants. Excludes infants with indeterminate status.
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines “elimination” of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) according to two criteria: a transmission rate of less than one percent of exposed infants and less than one case of MTCT per 100,000 live births.
- Based on data for 2022, NYS has met the CDC definition of elimination of MTCT nine times: 2013, and 2015 through 2022. 2022 is the eighth consecutive year NYS has met the goal.
