  • Data Sources: NYS HIV Surveillance System, American Community Survey (ACS), and County Health Rankings & Roadmaps 2021.
  • All comparisons of SDOH and HIV-related outcomes at the county level should be interpreted with caution. The ranking of SDOH outcomes by county provide useful context but do not suggest causation of any single HIV-related outcome. More context and explanation about the data can be found here: Social Determinants of Health and HIV Outcomes.
  • HIV-related outcomes data reported here for New York City are based on the New York State HIV Surveillance System. There may be differences between these numbers and the data reported by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene HIV Surveillance System.
  • The ETE Dashboard uses 59 “county areas” instead of 62 for New York State data, to protect the confidentiality of individuals in certain low population counties. HIV data from a selection of low population counties are combined with a neighboring county to form 3 pairs of county combinations (Essex and Hamilton; Schuyler and Yates; Lewis and St. Lawrence) resulting in 59 total “counties”.
